South Bay Weekend: Opening Day, UMFF, Art, Tiffany, King Harbor Brewing Beer Party, Beauty of Nature & More

The idea of spring is forever hopeful and nothing may embody such a notion as the start of another Major League Baseball season on Sunday. Opening Day gives Dodger fans, Angel fans and other big league boosters across the beach cities a reason to sit down on the couch and look forward to an everyday respite of joy or tragedy. Manhattan Beach House celebrates the long and winding return of MLB on Sunday by cooking up some homemade hot dogs and offering a draft special. more info

Below are a list of South Bay Events happening this weekend.

2017 Universe Multicultural Film Festival: Friday, March 31 to Sunday April 2, 2017 UMFF will take place from March 31st to April 2nd at the Promenade on the Peninsula, RHCC Community Center and Peninsula Center Library. The event, organized by Maeya Culture Exchange Group LLC, will present a wide variety of films, including original shorts, documentaries and animations created by those selected filmmakers from all over the world. more info

Knockdown Dash & Broken Ground Opening: Saturday, April 1, 2017 – 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM Opening this Saturday, Angels Gate Cultural Center hosts two new exhibitions that address distinct issues concerning housing and development in Southern California through a variety of mediums and visual strategies. In Knockdown Dash by Nicole Capps & James McCarthy and Broken Ground by John Hulsey and collaborators, the artists draw on their personal experiences to explore structural concerns. This show runs through May 22nd. Location: Angles Gate Cultural Center at 3601 S Gaffey St, San Pedro, CA 90731

King Harbor Brewing Company’s 3rd Anniversary Party: Saturday, April 1, 2017 – 2:00 PM – 6:00 PM Hang with the bros Saturday afternoon in the cozy confines of King Harbor Brewing Company’s parking lot for a beer anniversary. Expect at least twenty brews on draft including bottle release of King Swirly the 3rd (bourbon barrel aged imperial dark ale), a dunk tank, food trucks and live music. Tickets are $40 online. Tiffany at Saint Rocke: Saturday, April 1, 2017 – 9:00 PM Late 1980s pop princess star Tiffany (full name: Tiffany Darwish) stops by Saint Rocke Saturday night. Queen of the mall concerts in the 80s, Tiffany has a new, pop-country influenced album called “A Million Miles” that shows off her musical maturity since hits like “I Think We’re Alone Now.” General admission tickets are $25 online. Book-Signing with Author Eric Peterson at Sandpiper Books: Saturday, April 1, 2017 – 11:30 AM Southern California Author Eric Peterson signs his second novel, “The Dining Car”. His story dishes up a riotous spectacle of self-absorbed chef’s, backstabbing politicians, and devious publishing magnates, set against the backdropped of haute cuisine, presidential politics, and an endless supply of top-shelf liquor and wine. The Beauty of Nature Film Series at Warner Grand Theatre: Saturday, April 1, 2017 – 5:30 PM The Beauty of Nature film series is presented by the Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy. Each film explores the enjoyment of the beauty of nature through animals. On Saturday the series screens “Seasons” (2016, 97 min.) a terrestial exploration of the natural world from the Ice Age to the modern world. Tickets are $10 online or $15 at the door. True Tales from the South Bay at George Nakano Theatre: Sunday, April 2, 2017 – 7:00 PM Satisfy your need for human connection when the Torrance Cultural Arts Foundation presents “True Tales from the South Bay” this Sunday. A live storytelling event that features local speakers and special guests who expose their their own tales over a microphone and an audience. Tickets are $10 online.
